  • Hybrid work reduces turnover, rent and other expenses, and attracts more diverse talent
  • Diversion in deciding on Home Office by Major Corporations

There seems to be an ongoing debate as to whether or not working from home will be the future of business. Earlier, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk demanded that employees end working from home, arguing that meaningful products could not be realized over the phone.

But companies such as JPMorgan Chase & Co and Credit Suisse Group AG are actively promoting hybrid work models, which allow employees to choose whether to work from home. Japanese communications provider NTT has also recently indicated its participation in the work-from-home style.

NTT to allow 30,000+ employees to remote work fully

NTT, a Japanese telecommunications company, will try out work from home in July.

In mid-June this year, NTT reached an agreement with trade unions on the introduction of a system that will allow half of the employees of seven companies, including NTT, NTT Docomo and NTT data, to work at home or in satellite offices, with more than 30,000 people.

NTT also plans to increase the number of satellite offices in the future by splitting its headquarters in Tokyo to other cities.

This will help reduce the costs of brain drain and high rents, increase opportunities for employees to spend time with their families, and make it easier for employees who need childcare and nursing care, to join the workforce. This is expected to attract more diverse talent by providing flexible work arrangements.

Working from home becomes a common consensus in young generation

According to the most recent WFH Research statistics, quoted by Bloomberg, most typical office workers appear to favor the ability to work from home at least one day each week. If their company refuses to provide hybrid working possibilities, people in their twenties are more inclined to start seeking for a new employment, while those over 50 are more likely to just resign.

How to implement a mixed work model and allow employees to choose the right working environment for them is an issue that companies cannot ignore.
