Creating a great visitor experience is essential for businesses of all sizes. Whether you’re welcoming clients, partners, or job candidates, it’s important to make a positive first impression and ensure a smooth and hassle-free check-in process.

With the help of modern technology, you can create a seamless and personalized visitor experience that will leave a lasting impression. In this blog post, we’ll explore how self check-ins, badges, and maps can help you create a great visitor experience with ONES.

Self-Check-Ins

One of the most important aspects of creating a great visitor experience is the check-in process. Traditionally, this has involved a manual check-in process that can be time-consuming and frustrating for visitors.

However, with the help of self-check-in technology, you can streamline the check-in process and provide a more personalized experience.

ONES Visitor management system provides self-check-in panel which allows the visitor to complete the whole registration process with a few clicks. This eliminates the need for manual check-ins, reducing wait times and improving the overall visitor experience.

With self-check-ins, visitors can quickly and easily register and get on with their visit, reducing stress and improving satisfaction.

Badges

Another important aspect of creating a great visitor experience is providing visitors with clear identification. This is especially important in larger buildings or offices, where it can be difficult for visitors to navigate and find their way around.

By providing visitors with badges, you can ensure that they are easily recognizable and can access the areas they need to visit.

With the help of a smart office system like ONES, you can print out badges once the visitor has finished the registration and provide visitors with a personalized and professional experience.

Maps

Finally, maps are an essential tool for creating a great visitor experience. They provide visitors with a clear and easy-to-understand layout of your premises, helping them navigate and find their way around.

With the help of modern technology, you can create interactive maps that provide visitors with real-time information about your premises, such as the location of meeting rooms or restrooms.

Smart office systems like ONES include advanced mapping features that allow you to create customized maps that are tailored to your specific needs. You can include information about the location of meeting rooms, restrooms, and other amenities, as well as real-time updates about the availability of these spaces.

Conclusion

In conclusion, creating a great visitor experience is essential for businesses that want to make a positive first impression and ensure a smooth and hassle-free check-in process. By using self-check-ins, badges, and maps, you can create a seamless and personalized visitor experience that will leave a lasting impression.

With the help of a smart office system like ONES, you can streamline the check-in process, provide visitors with clear identification, and create interactive maps that help them navigate your premises.

How Hybrid Work Could Inspire an Outcome-Driven Culture? https://ones.software/blog/2023/03/29/how-hybrid-work-could-inspire-an-outcome-driven-culture/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-hybrid-work-could-inspire-an-outcome-driven-culture Wed, 29 Mar 2023 04:07:17 +0000 https://ones.software/blog/?p=3254 Why hybrid work could be the key to less hustle and more results?

The post How Hybrid Work Could Inspire an Outcome-Driven Culture? first appeared on ONEs Blog.

]]>
The rise of hybrid work models, with a mix of remote and office-based work, could help companies shift to an ‘outcome culture’ focusing on results rather than hours logged.

As Forbes recently discussed, studies suggest that hybrid and remote models are widely supported in the business world as follows:

 • Studies show that 80% of financial services firms now have hybrid work models in place, with some allowing full flexibility and others requiring 2-3 days per week in the office.
 • A survey of women workers found that 88% believe hybrid work equalizes the workplace and reduces biases, and 72% would look for a new job if hybrid flexibility was taken away.
 • 67% of women said hybrid work positively impacts their career growth by allowing more efficiency, opportunities for training, and visibility with leadership.

Other than these benefits, hybrid working also can help shift workplace culture away from a “Hustle culture” toward an “Outcome culture”.

What is “Hustle culture”?

“Hustle culture” refers to a workplace culture that glorifies overwork, long hours, and constant busyness or availability.

In a hustle culture, employees feel pressure to show how hard they’re working through efforts like frequently responding to emails late at night or coming into the office on weekends.

This culture implies that more hours logged or less time off equals greater dedication or higher performance.

Proponents of an “outcome culture” argue this focus on hours is misguided. Rather than tracking how much employees work, the emphasis should be on achieving key results and impacts.

Managers should clearly define desired outcomes, and as long as those outcomes are delivered, the specific hours worked or time off taken is less relevant. This could reduce burnout, improve work-life balance, and boost productivity.

However, a pure outcome culture may not suit every role or company. It also requires a shift in how managers evaluate and reward employees to be successful.

While deprioritizing hours in favor of results may sound good in theory, it must be balanced with ensuring employees are meeting reasonable productivity or workload expectations.

How hybrid working helps?

Hybrid work models that incorporate remote work make it harder to track how many hours employees spend working or to monitor face time in the office. This means hours logged or presence are less salient measures of performance, nudging companies to focus more on outcomes achieved.

If managers can’t as easily see who is “hustling” the most or working the longest hours, they must rely more on clear outcome expectations and trust that employees will get the work done on their own schedules.

At the same time, hybrid work gives employees more control and flexibility in how and when they work. This autonomy is better suited to an outcome culture, where employees are responsible for meeting goals however they choose, rather than an hours-based hustle culture.

When people have flexibility, they can work when they’re most productive and balanced, which could boost results. And when they are evaluated based on outcomes, not hours, their work time may be less demanding, reducing burnout.

Of course, hybrid or remote work is not a silver bullet and does not guarantee an outcome culture will emerge. Companies must make deliberate choices to define outcomes, evaluate performance accordingly, and grant flexibility/autonomy.

Managers will need support in adjusting to this type of culture as well. However, hybrid models do create an opportunity to at least reduce fixation on hours and encourage a shift in focus toward the results and impacts of work.

For companies seeking a healthier and potentially more productive culture, this could be a valuable benefit of hybrid work. Implementing a smart office system like ONES can also help enable seamless hybrid collaboration, facilitating the transition to an outcome-oriented evaluation and promotion of work-life balance.

As the business landscape in Singapore continues to evolve, it is essential for modern office managers to stay ahead of the curve.

With a growing emphasis on technology, work-life balance, and inclusivity, managing a modern office requires a combination of technical know-how and a deep understanding of the needs of the modern workforce.

In this article, we will explore the key aspects of managing a modern office in Singapore, from understanding the needs of employees to embracing technology and fostering a positive work culture.

Whether you are looking to streamline operations, increase productivity, or simply create a more supportive work environment, this guide has everything you need to know.

Understanding the Needs of the Modern Workforce in Singapore

A recent study by the Ministry of Manpower found that work-life balance is a top concern for employees in Singapore.

In fact, more than 60% of workers surveyed reported feeling stressed about balancing their professional and personal lives. This highlights the need for modern offices in Singapore to offer flexible work arrangements, such as remote work options and flexible schedules.

In addition to work-life balance, access to technology is also a critical concern for employees. A separate study conducted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority found that over 80% of employees in Singapore believe that having access to the latest technology is important for their job satisfaction.

To effectively manage a modern office in Singapore, it is crucial to understand the needs and expectations of your employees. This includes providing a comfortable and supportive work environment, as well as flexible work arrangements and access to the latest technology.

By meeting these needs, you can create an office environment that supports productivity, innovation, and employee satisfaction.

Embracing Technology to Streamline Office Operations

One of the key aspects of managing a modern office in Singapore is embracing technology. With the rise of smart office systems, it is now easier than ever to streamline operations and increase efficiency.

For example, room booking systems allow employees to quickly and easily reserve conference rooms or private workspaces, while hot desking systems enable staff to work from any available desk.

Visitor management systems, on the other hand, streamline the check-in process for visitors, ensuring that they are greeted with a professional and welcoming experience.

By implementing these technologies, modern office managers in Singapore can save time, reduce manual errors, and provide a more seamless experience for employees and visitors.

Whether you are looking to improve communication, increase productivity, or simply create a more efficient office environment, the right technology can make all the difference.

Fostering a Positive and Inclusive Work Culture

Creating a positive and inclusive work culture is essential for managing a modern office in Singapore. This means promoting a culture of respect, open communication, and collaboration, and taking steps to support the well-being of your employees.

One way to do this is by offering regular team building and professional development opportunities. This can help to build strong relationships and foster a sense of community within your team, while also providing opportunities for employees to learn and grow.

Build your own smart office with ONES

Today, sustainable ways of working are a big topic around the world. In 2015, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, highlighting the key issues that are economical, social and environmental…etc.

These goals have become a common language and strategic framework for global sustainable development and for running a business.

In Taiwan, lots of businesses have implemented hybrid work that is compatible with hybrid work and remote work. This hybrid working style allows Taiwanese employees to balance work and life while reducing work and financial stress.

What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable development focuses not only on climate change and environmental pollution but also on improving the health and well-being of employees, providing quality jobs, and promoting economic growth

Developing an effective sustainability strategy can help you save on operating expenses and develop your business. Meanwhile, you can build a positive image for your business and attract global talent to join by achieving sustainability goals.

What is hybrid working?

Hybrid work is a people-oriented approach to work, which aims to make employees work happier and increase their productivity. It is also a flexible way of working, allowing employees to choose when to work remotely and when to work in the office.

Benefits for the individuals

As hybrid work is a people-oriented way of working, therefore, when companies implement blending, it not only helps business operations but also provides flexibility, improves well-being, and reduces daily expenses for employees.

Hybrid work gives workers more freedom and autonomy, which means they can choose where and how they work. Compared to the traditional way in which employees are forced to return to the office, hybrid work gives employees control over their workflow, making work more enjoyable and relaxing.

Enhanced well-being

Traditional ways of working often require employees to work overtime due to a lack of productivity. For example, working long hours reduces their break time, which can lead to a lack of energy at work and a decrease in their ability to work.

When employees have a personalized work schedule, they can schedule more breaks for themselves to ensure that their performance is not affected.

With increased productivity, employees are able to finish their jobs during work hours and then have more time to spend with their families or friends. This gives employees a work-life balance and makes them healthier both physically and mentally.

Reducing daily expenses

As global prices rise, employees are eager to increase their income to meet their daily expenses, including the desire to receive an allowance for commuting or meals. However, employees did not receive many benefits in the old-fashioned workplace, usually only health insurance and no free meals.

In fact, Cisco Taiwan reports that over 80% of respondents said that hybrid work has helped them reduce their daily expenses in the past year. For example, 86.7% said they saved money on commuting and 73.2% said they saved money on meals and parties.

This is because employees typically work from home, which means they don’t have to buy take-out. And they avoid attending frequent parties because they spend less time with co-workers.

Benefits for Organization

When an organization uses hybrid work, the two biggest benefits are to reduce expenses and increase its competitive advantage.

Lower rents

In a hybrid office, employees use shared office resources, such as hot desks. Therefore, companies can save a lot of money by reducing the number of fixed desks and the size of their offices.

Especially in the Taipei area, where rents are more expensive. Therefore, companies are well suited to adopt hybrid work to reduce operating expenses.

Improve employee retention

A flexible workplace is important for Taiwanese employees. Assuming some companies want to move to more remote areas, employees will be less likely to leave because hybrid work gives them the option to return to the office at any time.

According to a report about hybrid working in Taiwan, 62% of Taiwan employees believe that their ability to work anywhere affects whether they stay in their job or leave.

In addition, hybrid work increases their work satisfaction and enables them to have a life-work balance. Therefore, two potential benefits of adopting hybrid work are increased retention and a greater ability to attract top talent.

Improve employee productivity

According to a report by Cisco Taiwan, 79% of respondents said that hybrid work has improved their overall happiness. Hybrid work makes Taiwanese workers happy, which leads to increased engagement with the company and provides higher productivity.

In addition, some studies have shown that if Taiwanese employees can work remotely, they will remain happy and will deliver productive performance, making the organization more competitive.

Optimize management and reduce workload

Hybrid office digitalizes management. Using an office management system helps companies easier to manage office resources. In addition, an office management system helps to avoid hiring additional staff to manage office resources and helps reduce the company’s operating costs.

For example, administrators can use a room management system to manage all rooms, which means they do not need to spend time managing rooms. This helps them to save time in managing the rooms, thus allowing them to focus on their work.

Benefits for society

While most people may only focus on the benefits of hybrid work for individuals and businesses, the truth is that the benefits of hybrid work go beyond that and can be beneficial to society.

Improve employment

Most companies lay off employees because of cost savings. Since hybrid work helps organizations save on operating expenses, they can reduce the times of layoffs and prevent employment rates from declining.

Furthermore, Taiwanese workers value flexibility. Therefore, when vacancies arise, hybrid jobs may be filled more quickly than positions in traditional offices. This could mean that employment will continue to rise in countries where hybrid work is widely used.

A healthier society

Hybrid work reduces worker stress and leads to improved worker well-being. Flexible work arrangements keep employees out of overcrowded workplaces and reduce the chance of illness.

When most companies implement hybrid work, workers in Taiwan can have a healthier society.

Improve environmental protection

Since hybrid work eliminates the need for employees to return to the office every day, pollution associated with commuting (cars/motorcycles, etc.) may also be reduced.

As more and more companies in Taiwan join hybrid work, energy consumption in the office will also be reduced. This will help reduce carbon emissions and light pollution.

Conclusion

In summary, sustainable development is a solution that focuses on protecting the environment and the well-being of people. And hybrid work is a way of working that puts people at the center and helps to protect the environment.

Therefore, hybrid work is a sustainable way of working because it is very similar to the principles of sustainable development. If hybrid work continues to be implemented in Taiwan, this will certainly have a positive impact on individuals, companies, and even society.

Based on the principles of sustainable development, we believe that hybrid work is the future work model in Taiwan. If you are a business leader in Taiwan, you should not put off joining the hybrid work bandwagon any longer.

What setup supports your hybrid office?

A hybrid office should use a functional office management system, which helps the employees in Taiwan use office resources efficiently, such as rooms, desks, and office equipment, and support them to have remote work and virtual meetings with their colleagues in the office.

Here are the reasons.

The post Top reasons Singapore people prefer Hybrid work you should know in 2023 first appeared on ONEs Blog.

]]>
In Singapore, hybrid work has become the norm. They found that only working from home would give them a variety of challenges, for example, the noise from TV or child. As a result, they occasionally need to work in the office.

What is Hybrid Work?

Hybrid work is a combination of remote work and office work that allows employees to have flexible work hours and locations, with the option to work from home or the office at any time.

Singapore’s Hybrid Work Arrangements

Many industries in Singapore, such as digital, knowledge, and office work, have practiced remote working where people work from home two to three days a week and work in the office the rest of the time.

According to the study, only 20% of employees prefer to fully in work-from-home or office respectively. 81% of employees and 76% of business leaders recognize the value of working in the office and at home.

Why do Singaporeans like hybrid work in 2023?

One of the main benefits is that hybrid work offers them flexibility at work. There are top 7 reasons that make Singaporeans now prefer hybrid work arrangements:

Improved work-life balance

Hybrid work prevents Singaporeans from feeling fatigued and stressed. Flexible working hours give them more time to rest and spend time with their families.

In addition, employees can save on their commuting costs because they don’t need to return to the office as often. This helps reduce their financial burden.

Help to stay away from illness

Hybrid work allows employees to have individual hybrid work schedules and work remotely for long periods of time, resulting in fewer people in the workplace.

According to a survey, most employees are concerned about their health and safety when they return to work. So, if the number of people in the workplace is reduced, this helps reduce the risk of sick employees infecting others.

Boost overall well-being

A hybrid workplace provides employees with more opportunities to have face-to-face communication, this makes them get closer and build good relationships.

Since hybrid work allows employees to organize their own workflow, it helps to reduce their stress. According to a report by Cisco Singapore, 78.6% of respondents said that hybrid work has improved their overall satisfaction.

Moreover, if employees are happy at their work, they would not quit their jobs. This helps employers to retain talents.

Increased office productivity

Different studies have reported that hybrid work can improve staff work performance. The reasons are that working from anywhere improves attendance, flexible work schedules make work easier, and adequate breaks improve concentration.

Based on a report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), over 50% of managers believe their teams are more productive when they work remotely. This proves that hybrid work can also maintain good productivity.

Effectively track employee performance

The hybrid workplace provides a different management system for employees’ work. The employees are required to work according to the daily hybrid work objectives scheduled by the employer in the system.

When the employee completes the work, the system will record the completed work. Then, the employer can check the performance at any time instead of constantly monitoring the employee’s performance.

Promote trust among employer-employee

Traditional working style does not require much communication, so there are many misunderstandings at work, which reduces the trust between employers and employees.

However, hybrid work focuses on communication, whether it is written or conversational.

If communication and interaction between employers and employees increases, misunderstandings will decrease. When employees gain more trust from their employers, they will be happier at work and the quality of their work will increase relatively.

Better collaboration and work relationships

When employees work from home, they can use collaboration tools to work with others and even conduct virtual meetings. And when in a hybrid workplace, co-working spaces allow employees to collaborate face-to-face in the same space.

Also, the collaboration tools will automatically save their remote work process and help them work seamlessly when they back to the office.

Real-world interactions bring employees closer together and foster deeper connections, trust, engagement, and loyalty, all of which improve collaboration and innovation.

Conclusion

The hybrid model provides Singaporeans with the flexibility to make their jobs more enjoyable and engaging.

Instead of being a perk for employees, hybrid work arrangements are gradually becoming a requirement for job seekers. If they continue to be required to work in the office five days a week, there is a risk of brain drain.

If you are considering how to expand your business, adopting hybrid work is your first step.

What setup can support your hybrid office?

A hybrid office should use a functional office management system, which helps Singapore employees use office resources efficiently, such as rooms, desks, and office equipment, and support them to have remote work and virtual meetings with their colleagues in the office.

Getting employees back in the office has become a hot topic recently and will last at least until 2023, companies are still looking for ways to get them back in the office.

However, forcing employees to return to the office is not a wise option as requiring the employees, who are accustomed to working flexibly, to return to the office can only have a negative effect, and even lead to talent loss.

The best approach is to adopt an incentive-based policy that provides an incentive to attract employees returning to the office. You also need to know that your workplace is ready to welcome them back.

Incentives to Encourage Return to Your Office

Workspace renovation – Redesign your office into a dynamic and comfortable workspace.

Commuter benefits – Provide your employees with travel allowances, and even free shuttle buses.

Free meals – Some companies offer complimentary snacks and lunches to employees.

Health and wellness facilities – Provide a gym in the workplace or a spiritual retreat room with a focus on wellness.

Hybrid work schedules – Allows your employees to work remotely sometimes and provide personalized work hours for each staff.

Workplace concerns you need to know

In addition to implementing the above motivational measures, you also need to be aware of the problems your employees encounter when working remotely so that you don’t repeat the mistakes in your workplace.

We’ve collected some data and made some analysis to support your decision to return to work.

Workspace management

When employees return to their workplace and find too many empty workspaces, they feel empty and sparse.

Therefore, you need to optimize your office space, most importantly by centralizing work areas and rebuilding spaces for teamwork. This will help attract employees back to the office. Some data shows that centralized work areas make employees happier, and their attendance steadily improves.

Microsoft’s report found that 85% of employees enter the office because they are motivated by a renewed team bond, so when rebuilding your workspace, you need to pay attention to a clear division of work areas.

Facilitate communication everywhere

Another thing employees crave is the ability to talk face-to-face. The epidemic causes employees to work alone for long periods of time, making them mental fatigue which can affect the quality of their work. Face-to-face conversations can provide immediate feedback and make work run more smoothly.

Microsoft reports that employees will visit the office more often if they know their immediate team member will be there (73%) or their work friend is there (74%).

Communicating with supervisors in a relaxed space makes for a more casual work atmosphere and brings both parties closer together more easily, which helps build a good work culture.

Some companies create their offices as friendly and casual environments and also provide equipment that is conducive to work.

Appropriate Work Flexibility

Employees like to work from home because working remotely has high flexibility. So, when they work in the workplace, it is important for you to provide a flexible work style in your workplace.

One simple thing is to provide them with flexible office facilities, such as a hot desk, so that they can change their work location in anytime and feel as relaxed as if they were working at home. This policy can relieve employees’ anxiety and will not highly refuse to return to the workplace.

Reports indicate that more than 80% of managers expect to adopt more flexible work principles in the post-epidemic era to support employees to work from home and encourage them to return to the office.

Systematic work devices

Nowadays, hybrid workplaces are implementing different collaboration tools or management systems to improve employee productivity. For example, Microsoft Teams is a great collaboration tool that allows employees to have real-time conversations and store their work progress in the company’s cloud-based system.

Then, workers can keep track of their remote work progress when they go back to the office. A report shows 70% of companies are using collaboration tools and are seeing significant improvements in team performance.

Moreover, workers expect their workplace to provide them with a well-connected network. In an internal study of Microsoft employees, 59% of interviewers said they had to use their phones as hotspots to avoid disconnections.

Thus, you must provide employees with a good network system to attract them back to the office.

As Hong Kong emerges from pandemic isolation, providers of flexible workspaces are growing in order to take advantage of the changing nature of the workplace.

Based on Nikkei Asia reports, they are making these moves despite an oversupply of office space caused by new buildings entering the market and businesses consolidating or departing Hong Kong due to the weak economy and stringent COVID regulations.

Singapore-based premium co-working space debuts in Hong Kong

The Great Room, a premium coworking space operator with offices in Singapore, has infused One Taikoo Place in Hong Kong with its distinct brand of hospitality-inspired culture.

Renters may work in the 24,000 sqft space, which is painted in neutral earth tones and draws influence from upscale hotels and business clubs. This setting is meant to assist tenants to find the ideal balance between efficiency and creativity.

Jaelle Ang, CEO of The Great Room, mentioned that in an expensive city such as Hong Kong, it becomes even more important to make every dollar count. Flexible spaces such as The Great room can allow companies to fully use their operational cost on delivering impact for business interactions, employee engagement, and productivity.

The pandemic forces companies “to really cater to that hybrid working plus the wellness element,” Ang told Nikkei Asia.

The facility should reach 90% occupancy within a year due to the great demand, according to Ang, who declined to say how many tenant agreements had been inked.

The role of the office is no longer simply a place to work, but a communal space enabling collaboration, fostering innovation and supporting high-performing teams

A flexible workplace makes property and assets more attractive to tenants

The brokerage of commercial real estate According to Colliers, a surge in Grade A office space caused vacancy rates to increase to 12.6% in the third quarter of this year. According to statistics from Cushman & Wakefield, total office rentals for the quarter were down 29% from their peak in April 2019.

In the two years leading up to 2024, Hong Kong will add 8.2 million square feet of Grade A office space, according to statistics from commercial real estate firm CBRE.

Based on Fiona Ngan, head of office services at Colliers comments, Central is still the primary CBD in Hong Kong, but they see that occupiers changing their approach as their business needs change. Flexible working has provided the tipping point of these processes.

With the vacancy rates in premium office spaces keep rising up despite the Hong Kong government’s effort to revive the city’s status as an international hub, landlords are more receptive to working with flexible working spaces to create an inviting workplace.

In the face of global economic uncertainties and hybrid work becoming more popular, some tenants are turning to spaces that offer more flexibility. This has supported the expansion of flexible offices in the city,

Alex Barnes, managing director at JLL in Hong Kong

According to a CBRE poll conducted in May, as COVID-19 rules are relaxed around the region, roughly 60% of Asia-Pacific enterprises anticipate a hybrid of working from home and office hours.

What is the condition of WFH in Taiwan now? https://ones.software/blog/2022/12/07/what-is-the-condition-of-wfh-in-taiwan-now/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-is-the-condition-of-wfh-in-taiwan-now Wed, 07 Dec 2022 01:51:00 +0000 https://ones.software/blog/?p=2757 104 Data report reveals why people love or hate WFH in Taiwan.

The post What is the condition of WFH in Taiwan now? first appeared on ONEs Blog.

]]>
Last year, Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MoL) issued the Occupational Safety and Health References Guidelines on Working from Home, indicating that working from home (WFH) has become a new trend work model on 23 June.

Although working from home has certain benefits, there are many difficulties in implementation. Let’s review the benefits and challenges of WFH.

Taiwan WFH Survey reveals why people prefer WFH

In Taiwan, 104 Data invited 2,755 Taiwanese employees and 2,637 Taiwanese employers to share their thoughts on new ways of working. Among them, 37.7% of employees are or have been WFH, and 58.1% of entrepreneurs provide WFH.

Benefits of WFH in Taiwan

Based on the report, 66.1% of employees think WFH can make their time more flexible. 64.8% prefer WFH because they can sleep more without commuting. 56.5% think WFH can help them save money, such as dressing and make-up costs, meals out, transportation costs, etc.

On the other hand, 45.6% of employers believe that adopting WFH will help them save money by eliminating the need for employees to return to the office, e.g., office rent and utilities. 41.8% feel WFH helps to enhance employee self-management; 29.8% think WFH can increase employee satisfaction and help retain and recruit talent.

More importantly, both companies (82%) and employees (70%) believe that WFH improves people’s life-work balance.

Challenge of WFH implementation

Even though WFH has lots of benefits for employees and employers in Taiwan, the report shows that people still do not think it is the best solution for future work.

Misconceptions about WFH

WFH is not an employee benefit, it is one of the measures to improve work efficiency. There are still 14% of companies and 27% of workers who misunderstand WFH as a part of employee benefits.

In fact, WFH is used to meet the needs of employees and enhance their job satisfaction. It is more important to give employees flexibility in their work than just to give employees WFH.

WFH is not a no-cost work approach

Many companies think that WFH means they don’t need to rent offices or pay work allowances to employees.

In fact, you may still have some equipment that needs to be in the office. It’s wiser to evaluate office usage and space ratios before deciding whether to continue renting office space.

In addition, employees need good network support to have a good WFH experience, so employers still need to pay their network allowance.

Not suitable for all enterprises

As mentioned above, some jobs are not suitable for WFH, so you need to consider whether the job area can meet the WFH requirements.

Otherwise, it will be ineffective and a waste of time and resources to force the implementation.

Requires self-disciplined and self-motivated staff

The quality of employees is an important factor in the implementation of WFH. If your employees are passive at work, there is no way to ensure that they are as productive in WFH as they are in the office.

In addition, new employees are not suitable for WFH because they do not yet have a clear understanding of the company’s working standards. Therefore, there is no guarantee that they will know how to work on their own initiative.

Hybrid working is more suitable for Taiwanese than WFH

In summary, the 104 report shows that working from home has certain benefits, but there are many difficulties in implementation.

On the other hand, the report points out that employees and employers prefer hybrid working in Taiwan now.

The employees (65%) and the employers (29%) in Taiwan said that they changed their minds and supported hybrid work with “3 days in + 2 days of WHF” as the best solution.

What is hybrid working?

Hybrid work is an approach that combines work at home and work in the office and takes into account the needs of the individual.

It provides sufficient flexibility in work, including customized flexible working hours, workplace, and workflow by employees themselves, and allows them to work in the public workspace in the office.

As a result, employees are able to enjoy a personalized work schedule and combine it with a co-working style within the company to create an organized and efficient work model.

What setup can support a hybrid office?

A hybrid office should use a functional office management system, which helps Singapore employees use office resources efficiently, such as rooms, desks, and office equipment, and support them to have remote work and virtual meetings with their colleagues in the office.

Busting the Myth Of Losing Social Capital In Hybrid Work https://ones.software/blog/2022/12/06/busting-the-myth-of-losing-social-capital-in-hybrid-work/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=busting-the-myth-of-losing-social-capital-in-hybrid-work Tue, 06 Dec 2022 03:47:33 +0000 https://ones.software/blog/?p=2754 Some companies are refusing to adopt best practices for hybrid and remote work. This cause them lost in the war for talent.

Google, Apple, Twitter, and a number of other large tech companies argue that requiring mostly in-office work – at least three days a week – is necessary to protect the company’s social capital, which refers to people’s connections to and trust in one another.

On the contrary, several huge digital businesses, such as Amazon and Dropbox, provide employees with far more freedom, including substantial remote work choices. Many non-tech organizations, such as Lego, Deloitte, and 3M, are in the same boat. Thus, are they foregoing social capital?

Tech giant force to implement office work

According to Laszlo Brock, former Google HR chief, three days a week is only a transition time. In the following years, Google’s leadership aims to impose full-time in-office work. The Google leadership’s stance on returning to the office to safeguard social capital is similar to Apple’s, which requires a three-day work week.

This regulation goes against the wishes of many Google employees. A poll of over 1,000 Google workers revealed that two-thirds are dissatisfied with being compelled to work three days a week, with many threatening to leave in internal meetings and public letters, and others already left to work for other firms that offer more flexible schedules.

Recently, study findings show how organizations that shifted their pre-pandemic labor arrangements to remote work during the lockdowns lost social capital. Nonetheless, research shows that by implementing best practices for hybrid and remote work, firms may increase their social capital.

Why Do Companies Undervalue Hybrid Work?

Cognitive biases

Leaders frequently fail to implement best practices due to serious judgment mistakes known as cognitive biases. These mental blindspots influence decision-making in many aspects of life, from business to relationships.

Fortunately, recent research has revealed effective strategies for overcoming these dangerous judgment errors, such as restricting our choices by focusing on the top available options, as demonstrated by this comparison website.

Functional fixedness

Functional fixedness is a cognitive bias that limits a person to use an object only in the way it is traditionally used. When we have a preconceived notion of what is proper, we tend to overlook other, more appropriate choices.

Attempting to adapt traditional methods of cooperation in “office culture” to hybrid and remote work is a great example of functional fixedness. That is why leaders failed to address the challenges that would arise as a result of the rapid shift to telework in March 2020.

How to improve your social capital in the hybrid working era

To overcome these cognitive biases that undervalue hybrid work, best practices based on research must be used.

It entails implementing a hybrid-first model, with the majority coming to the office at least once a week and a minority working entirely remotely. To do so successfully, a new work culture that is well-suited to the hybrid and remote future of work is required.

Activity-based working

For example, LEGO’s new headquarters in Denmark has no permanent workstations and that is essentially a large desk-wheel community. It is a “mini-city” that offers facilities, such as a gym and theaters, for colleagues from different departments who can socialize or relax in these areas after a hard day’s work.

The LEGO Group said that they focus on creating a free and caring environment and aim to promote recreation and productivity. The strategy taken by the LEGO Group differs in that it appears to take into account the types of work that its workers are performing and provides them with the optimum setting for completing specific roles or tasks.

Office management systems

One of the HR challenges is management procedures and 15% of respondents agree on this point, according to HP Teradici’s survey.

The reason is the admins usually take much time for monitoring the staff’s performance or manage office resources, which makes the admins can’t focus on their work and difficult to maintain good performance.

Therefore, business leaders should think about how to optimize their employees’ work process and Omdia’s report suggests organizations should plan and deliver technology to help their workers be productive from wherever they are.

hybrid office should use a comprehensive office management system, which helps your employees use office resources efficiently, such as rooms, desks, and office equipment, and support them have remote work and virtual meetings with their colleagues in the office.
