Today, sustainable ways of working are a big topic around the world. In 2015, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, highlighting the key issues that are economical, social and environmental…etc.

These goals have become a common language and strategic framework for global sustainable development and for running a business.

In Taiwan, lots of businesses have implemented hybrid work that is compatible with hybrid work and remote work. This hybrid working style allows Taiwanese employees to balance work and life while reducing work and financial stress.

What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable development focuses not only on climate change and environmental pollution but also on improving the health and well-being of employees, providing quality jobs, and promoting economic growth

Developing an effective sustainability strategy can help you save on operating expenses and develop your business. Meanwhile, you can build a positive image for your business and attract global talent to join by achieving sustainability goals.

What is hybrid working?

Hybrid work is a people-oriented approach to work, which aims to make employees work happier and increase their productivity. It is also a flexible way of working, allowing employees to choose when to work remotely and when to work in the office.

Benefits for the individuals

As hybrid work is a people-oriented way of working, therefore, when companies implement blending, it not only helps business operations but also provides flexibility, improves well-being, and reduces daily expenses for employees.

Hybrid work gives workers more freedom and autonomy, which means they can choose where and how they work. Compared to the traditional way in which employees are forced to return to the office, hybrid work gives employees control over their workflow, making work more enjoyable and relaxing.

Enhanced well-being

Traditional ways of working often require employees to work overtime due to a lack of productivity. For example, working long hours reduces their break time, which can lead to a lack of energy at work and a decrease in their ability to work.

When employees have a personalized work schedule, they can schedule more breaks for themselves to ensure that their performance is not affected.

With increased productivity, employees are able to finish their jobs during work hours and then have more time to spend with their families or friends. This gives employees a work-life balance and makes them healthier both physically and mentally.

Reducing daily expenses

As global prices rise, employees are eager to increase their income to meet their daily expenses, including the desire to receive an allowance for commuting or meals. However, employees did not receive many benefits in the old-fashioned workplace, usually only health insurance and no free meals.

In fact, Cisco Taiwan reports that over 80% of respondents said that hybrid work has helped them reduce their daily expenses in the past year. For example, 86.7% said they saved money on commuting and 73.2% said they saved money on meals and parties.

This is because employees typically work from home, which means they don’t have to buy take-out. And they avoid attending frequent parties because they spend less time with co-workers.

Benefits for Organization

When an organization uses hybrid work, the two biggest benefits are to reduce expenses and increase its competitive advantage.

Lower rents

In a hybrid office, employees use shared office resources, such as hot desks. Therefore, companies can save a lot of money by reducing the number of fixed desks and the size of their offices.

Especially in the Taipei area, where rents are more expensive. Therefore, companies are well suited to adopt hybrid work to reduce operating expenses.

Improve employee retention

A flexible workplace is important for Taiwanese employees. Assuming some companies want to move to more remote areas, employees will be less likely to leave because hybrid work gives them the option to return to the office at any time.

According to a report about hybrid working in Taiwan, 62% of Taiwan employees believe that their ability to work anywhere affects whether they stay in their job or leave.

In addition, hybrid work increases their work satisfaction and enables them to have a life-work balance. Therefore, two potential benefits of adopting hybrid work are increased retention and a greater ability to attract top talent.

Improve employee productivity

According to a report by Cisco Taiwan, 79% of respondents said that hybrid work has improved their overall happiness. Hybrid work makes Taiwanese workers happy, which leads to increased engagement with the company and provides higher productivity.

In addition, some studies have shown that if Taiwanese employees can work remotely, they will remain happy and will deliver productive performance, making the organization more competitive.

Optimize management and reduce workload

Hybrid office digitalizes management. Using an office management system helps companies easier to manage office resources. In addition, an office management system helps to avoid hiring additional staff to manage office resources and helps reduce the company’s operating costs.

For example, administrators can use a room management system to manage all rooms, which means they do not need to spend time managing rooms. This helps them to save time in managing the rooms, thus allowing them to focus on their work.

Benefits for society

While most people may only focus on the benefits of hybrid work for individuals and businesses, the truth is that the benefits of hybrid work go beyond that and can be beneficial to society.

Improve employment

Most companies lay off employees because of cost savings. Since hybrid work helps organizations save on operating expenses, they can reduce the times of layoffs and prevent employment rates from declining.

Furthermore, Taiwanese workers value flexibility. Therefore, when vacancies arise, hybrid jobs may be filled more quickly than positions in traditional offices. This could mean that employment will continue to rise in countries where hybrid work is widely used.

A healthier society

Hybrid work reduces worker stress and leads to improved worker well-being. Flexible work arrangements keep employees out of overcrowded workplaces and reduce the chance of illness.

When most companies implement hybrid work, workers in Taiwan can have a healthier society.

Improve environmental protection

Since hybrid work eliminates the need for employees to return to the office every day, pollution associated with commuting (cars/motorcycles, etc.) may also be reduced.

As more and more companies in Taiwan join hybrid work, energy consumption in the office will also be reduced. This will help reduce carbon emissions and light pollution.

Conclusion

In summary, sustainable development is a solution that focuses on protecting the environment and the well-being of people. And hybrid work is a way of working that puts people at the center and helps to protect the environment.

Therefore, hybrid work is a sustainable way of working because it is very similar to the principles of sustainable development. If hybrid work continues to be implemented in Taiwan, this will certainly have a positive impact on individuals, companies, and even society.

Based on the principles of sustainable development, we believe that hybrid work is the future work model in Taiwan. If you are a business leader in Taiwan, you should not put off joining the hybrid work bandwagon any longer.

Here are the benefit and plans for hybrid working you need to know.

In Taiwan, 104 Bank shows that WFH has many benefits for Taiwanese employees and employers, and also shows that WFH is not the only option for Taiwanese. More data shows that hybrid work is the best solution for future work styles.

A Cisco report in Taiwan also shows that 78% of respondents globally believe that hybrid and remote work has improved all aspects of their well-being, enabling employees to take care of their whole selves in their work roles and outside of work.

Moreover, 62% of employees believe that their ability to work anywhere affects whether they stay in their job or leave it.

What is hybrid working?

Hybrid work is an approach that combines work at home and work in the office and takes into account the needs of the individual.

It provides sufficient flexibility in work, including customized flexible working hours, workplace, and workflow by employees themselves, and allows them to work in the public workspace in the office.

As a result, employees are able to enjoy a personalized work schedule and combine it with a co-working style within the company to create an organized and efficient work model.

What does Taiwan employee data show?

Hybrid working is highly preferred by Taiwanese workers

104 Data invited 2,755 Taiwanese employees and 2,637 Taiwanese employers to share their thoughts on new ways of working.

65% of employees and 29% of employers said that they prefer hybrid work with “3 days in + 2 days”. Employees only will accept full-time office work if their company is unable to WFH.

Benefits of hybrid work

Based on the Cisco report, 79% of respondents said that hybrid working has improved their overall well-being.

Hybrid work also can improve people’s work performance. 59.8% and 53.8% of respondents say hybrid work enhances their quality of work and productivity.

Furthermore, hybrid work has saved employees money. The report shows 80.7% saved money in the past 12 months, an average savings of U.S.$146 a week and U.S. $7592 a year.

At the same time, this means employers can reduce the travel allowances for the employees as they less to back to the office.

What should you need for hybrid work in Taiwan?

Before deciding if your company is suitable for hybrid work, you must have a clear understanding of what is required or what should prepare for hybrid work.

Have you planned a full hybrid guideline and policy for hybrid work?

According to a Cisco report, 69.4% of respondents say they want hybrid work arrangements.

Even the employers are supportive of the hybrid work arrangement, 80% say they are supportive and 30% say they are very supportive of this approach.

The reason is if you establish some good working guidelines so that your employees can work with clear work objectives, then ensure their productivity.

In addition, if you establish some proper work policies, it would ensure your company that there is a clear vision. The result is to put your company on the right path to flexibility.

Are you ready to introduce some technology that is compatible with remote work?

According to Microsoft’s recommendations for the hybrid work program, the flexibility program should also include technology that supports team collaboration and creates a new digital employee experience that follows employees wherever they go.

You need to provide your employees with a well-connected network, as well as collaborative work tools that support virtual meetings. In addition, it must need to provide seamless working facilities or equipment for remote workers, supporting their return to office work.

For example, if a remote worker is used to working alone, you can provide a quiet car to he/ she, which supports he/she working alone, and make he/ she easily adapt to working back in the office.

Furthermore, you can provide your employees with virtual communication software that supports real-time conversations, such as Teams, so that they can easily follow up the remote work process when they go back to the office.

Is your workplace an employee-centric design?

An employee-centered workplace provides a friendly working environment that will help increase employee satisfaction and attract them to come back to work.

Having a workplace with an employee-centered design is an important transition moment for employees to return to the office. A good example is LEGO Campus

In addition, a hybrid workplace provides different equipment to support flexible work and an office management system that allows managers to easily manage all resources in the office.

For example, Benz Taiwan has chosen to use a room booking system for its office. This system allows their staff to check the availability of meeting rooms at any time and provides a real-time reservation function.

The system makes Benz Taiwan eliminates the need to hire more room managers and gives the admins more time to focus on other tasks, making the office more efficient.

Are you mentally ready for hybrid work?

Referring to the Cisco report, only 16.1% of employees feel their employer is “very prepare” for a hybrid working future.

The reasons are they have a wrong mindset of hybrid work or do not consider implementing the mentioned above approaches.

Your mindset is very important to the success of hybrid work. If you don’t fully believe in hybrid work, you would not know which is the right hybrid work practice for your business, making your workplace impossible to implement hybrid work successfully.

Meanwhile, a lack of understanding of hybrid work can cause you to waste resources by buying the wrong equipment to support the hybrid work. In the end, your employees can’t work with real flexibility, so this makes them will quit their jobs and go to find real flexible work.

Therefore, in order to retain your talent, you must have to abandon the idea of a traditional work style. If you’ve changed your mindset and are planning to use the options described above, so congratulations, you’re ready for the hybrid work generation!

The post What is the condition of WFH in Taiwan now? first appeared on ONEs Blog.

]]>
Last year, Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MoL) issued the Occupational Safety and Health References Guidelines on Working from Home, indicating that working from home (WFH) has become a new trend work model on 23 June.

Although working from home has certain benefits, there are many difficulties in implementation. Let’s review the benefits and challenges of WFH.

Taiwan WFH Survey reveals why people prefer WFH

In Taiwan, 104 Data invited 2,755 Taiwanese employees and 2,637 Taiwanese employers to share their thoughts on new ways of working. Among them, 37.7% of employees are or have been WFH, and 58.1% of entrepreneurs provide WFH.

Benefits of WFH in Taiwan

Based on the report, 66.1% of employees think WFH can make their time more flexible. 64.8% prefer WFH because they can sleep more without commuting. 56.5% think WFH can help them save money, such as dressing and make-up costs, meals out, transportation costs, etc.

On the other hand, 45.6% of employers believe that adopting WFH will help them save money by eliminating the need for employees to return to the office, e.g., office rent and utilities. 41.8% feel WFH helps to enhance employee self-management; 29.8% think WFH can increase employee satisfaction and help retain and recruit talent.

More importantly, both companies (82%) and employees (70%) believe that WFH improves people’s life-work balance.

Challenge of WFH implementation

Even though WFH has lots of benefits for employees and employers in Taiwan, the report shows that people still do not think it is the best solution for future work.

Misconceptions about WFH

WFH is not an employee benefit, it is one of the measures to improve work efficiency. There are still 14% of companies and 27% of workers who misunderstand WFH as a part of employee benefits.

In fact, WFH is used to meet the needs of employees and enhance their job satisfaction. It is more important to give employees flexibility in their work than just to give employees WFH.

WFH is not a no-cost work approach

Many companies think that WFH means they don’t need to rent offices or pay work allowances to employees.

In fact, you may still have some equipment that needs to be in the office. It’s wiser to evaluate office usage and space ratios before deciding whether to continue renting office space.

In addition, employees need good network support to have a good WFH experience, so employers still need to pay their network allowance.

Not suitable for all enterprises

As mentioned above, some jobs are not suitable for WFH, so you need to consider whether the job area can meet the WFH requirements.

Otherwise, it will be ineffective and a waste of time and resources to force the implementation.

Requires self-disciplined and self-motivated staff

The quality of employees is an important factor in the implementation of WFH. If your employees are passive at work, there is no way to ensure that they are as productive in WFH as they are in the office.

In addition, new employees are not suitable for WFH because they do not yet have a clear understanding of the company’s working standards. Therefore, there is no guarantee that they will know how to work on their own initiative.

Hybrid working is more suitable for Taiwanese than WFH

In summary, the 104 report shows that working from home has certain benefits, but there are many difficulties in implementation.

On the other hand, the report points out that employees and employers prefer hybrid working in Taiwan now.

The employees (65%) and the employers (29%) in Taiwan said that they changed their minds and supported hybrid work with “3 days in + 2 days of WHF” as the best solution.

Why Hybrid work matters in Taiwan https://ones.software/blog/2022/11/21/why-hybrid-work-matters-in-taiwan/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=why-hybrid-work-matters-in-taiwan Mon, 21 Nov 2022 03:06:22 +0000 https://ones.software/blog/?p=2595 Hybrid working is one of the major concerns for Taiwanese workers now.

The post Why Hybrid work matters in Taiwan first appeared on ONEs Blog.

]]>
Working from home (WFH) became a mainstream work style regulated by the labor authority on June 23, 2021, when Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MOL) announced the “Occupational Safety and Health References Guidelines on Working from Home”.

Meanwhile, hybrid working is one of the major concerns for Taiwanese workers as they will consider if the company can provide a hybrid working option when they change jobs, based on the Cisco survey.

What Taiwanese workers want

In January 2022, 104 Data invited 2,755 Taiwanese employees and 2,637 Taiwanese employers to share their thoughts on new ways of working.

The study results are illuminating: 82% of those who have worked from home think that hybrid working policies can boost employee satisfaction, while 79% agree that they can increase corporate satisfaction.

However, when it comes to working styles, employers and employees have opposing views.

Employers prefer that their employees come into the office, but employees prefer hybrid work or working from home. Both sides, however, prefer to work three days in the office and two days at home.

Learn more about hybrid working: A Full Guide to Hybrid Work: What is hybrid work model and why it is important?

Hybrid working improves well-being

Cisco’s latest global hybrid work study shows that hybrid working improves five areas of well-being.

According to the research, 60% of Taiwanese employees surveyed believe that their job quality has improved due to the hybrid working model, and more than half of the employees believe that their productivity has improved.

More than two-thirds said their mental health had improved. While one-third said there had been no change, 42.8% said their social well-being had improved.

For example, for financial well-being, 81% of Taiwanese employees believe that they have saved a lot of money through the hybrid office in the past year;

They saved an average of NT$4,320 per week and NT$226,105 a year. Transportation (87%) and food and entertainment (73%) are the areas where Taiwanese employees save the most.

Reducing expenses for employees also helps to retain talent. 75% of the respondents said that when considering changing jobs, they would take the saved expenses into consideration.

It is clear that hybrid working is here to stay, and for good reason as employees and businesses alike see tangible benefits across key indicators – from improved overall employee wellbeing to better productivity and work performance.

Anupam Trehan, Director, People and Communities, Cisco India & SAARC

Taiwan companies need to get prepare for hybrid working

Microsoft believes that flexible hybrid work models are here to stay. Over 70% of employees want flexible remote work options to continue, and 65% want more in-person time with their teams and collaboration in the workplace.

Although hybrid work has become a widely accepted working model among Taiwanese employees, only a quarter of employees believe that their companies are “fully prepared” for the future of hybrid offices. There are still gaps in resource policies and procedures.

104 Data study identifies key success criteria for hybrid work and work-from-home policies, including flexibility and productivity, a culture of trust, clear corporate goals, and enough efficient software and hardware.

Meanwhile, hybrid and work-from-home roles increased by 4.6 times in the last three years but only accounted for 1.5% of the recruiting market, indicating that innovative modes of working still have a long way to go in Taiwan.

What should you do for your hybrid office now?

If employers want to retain their talent, they must accommodate what employees want and make changes to incorporate a hybrid work model.

Flexibility is required as the workforce places a greater emphasis on worker well-being and better work-life balance. Whether corporations like it or not, hybrid work appears to be here to stay.
