Lots of Japanese companies have shown their attitude to hybrid working as their office working models, such as Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT) has adopted remote working as its standard work style.
Recently some Japanese carmakers like Suzuki and Nissan have also introduced new car models that cater to the “work-from-car” working style, allowing car owners to work anywhere they want.

Nissan “MOOW”
On the other hand, Nissan “MOOW” model is also a new type of car to better accommodate remote work. It is equipped with a high-performance lithium-ion battery allowing recharge when the vehicle is in motion, making it possible to supply the power needed for teleworking even when the engine is switched off.
The interior of the vehicle is equipped with indirect lighting to create an environment suitable for online meetings. The desktop is movable for easy seating, is sized for laptop use, and has a slit for hands-free, video calling by plugging in a smartphone.
Nissan NV350 caravan – Office Pod
Another mobile workspace Nissan Office Pod also provides a workstation with enough creature comforts to make a day at the office feel like a quiet vacation.
The Nissan NV350 caravan has an office workstation and chair that can slide in and out of the back and, when extended, provides workers with an outside workspace. When required, it stores itself inside.
The concept car is a modified version of Nissan’s NV350 Caravan, which debuted in 2012 and presently sells for between $22,000 and $38,000 in Japan.
“For the past year, (the) coronavirus pandemic has significantly accelerated the work-from-home trend and many office workers are now having a variety of issues working home,” Nissan explained in press materials shared with CNN. “Nissan wants to solve these issues by giving those workers more choice of where and how they work.”
Suzuki Spacia Base
Suzuki has developed a light car model “Spacia Base” that can be used as a remote working office, with the concept of “Space freedom for play and work. Light commercial vans for new uses.” The back seat can be converted into a computer workstation with a large desktop.
According to the automaker, the new vehicle will also be useful for enjoying outdoor activities, as the desktop can be converted into a shelf for storing cargo such as camping equipment.
Hybrid working becomes a common consensus among the young generation
According to the most recent WFH Research statistics, quoted by Bloomberg, most typical office workers appear to favor the ability to work from home at least one day each week.
If their company refuses to provide hybrid working possibilities, people in their twenties are more inclined to start seeking new employment, while those over 50 are more likely to just resign.
How to implement a hybrid work model and allow employees to choose the right working environment for them is an issue that companies cannot ignore.
